Ethical statement
Elizabeth Anne Nutbrown Jewellery is committed to making quality, sustainable pieces that can be worn again and again, lasting a lifetime, in line with the ‘slow fashion movement’.
Where possible, jewellery is created using recycled and Fairtrade metals. The gemstones used are supplied by reputable gemstone merchants who, in turn, source from reputable and ethically run mines. In some instances, synthetic stones are used instead of their mined counterparts. Synthetic stones are ‘real’, they have the same look, chemical composition and properties as mined stones - the only difference is that they have been created in a Laboratory. Synthetic stones are a great alternative for those of us who are concerned about the environmental and ethical cost of mining for gemstones. It will always clearly stated if synthetic stones have been used instead of their natural counterparts.
Sustainable practice doesn’t just apply to the jewellery pieces. It’s really important to me that the jewellery packaging strikes the right balance between being beautiful, making the receiving of my jewellery a real experience, and it being as sustainable as possible. I completely understand that many people discard their packaging after receiving their jewellery either because that ring never leaves their finger or because its easier to keep that necklace in your jewellery box with all of its necklace friends. That’s why all of my packaging is super easy to dispose of in an environmentally friendly way. The earring presentation cards and presentation boxes are made from kraft card. No adhesive and minimal ink is used (the two main culprits that prevent recycling), so you can just pop it in your household paper and card recycling. The box inserts are 100% wool felt: a fantastic, sustainable and bio-degradable alternative to plastic based foams. These inserts can go into textile recycling (if you have that facility) or you can tear it up and put it into your compost bin. You’ll also receive an organic cotton draw-string bag to store your jewellery in – perfect for keeping your jewellery safe when you travel too. Or, if you prefer, why not fill it with lavender and hang it in your wardrobe!
To reduce waste, postal packaging may be pre-used. Used boxes and jiffy bags are thoroughly inspected to ensure that they are suitable for reuse and will keep your jewellery safe in transit.
Elizabeth Anne Nutbrown Jewellery is a proud supporter of the ‘Just a Card’ movement and is dedicated to the promotion and patronage of independent UK businesses.
