Hallmarking
Elizabeth Anne Nutbrown Jewellery is registered with the Sheffield Assay Office. As per the Hallmarking Act 1973, any silver piece over 7.78g or gold piece over 1g must hold a full UK Hallmark.
The presence of a UK Hallmark shows that a piece has been independently checked at a UK Assay Office and that the metal conforms to the legal standard of purity.
The Hallmark will consist of 3 parts:
1. The Sponsor Mark – This is my initials, ‘EAN’, in an elongated octagon. This sponsor mark is a unique to me and can be used to identify a piece as my work.
2. The Purity Mark – This shows the metal purity. For sterling silver this is 925.
3. The Assay Office Mark – For Sheffield this is a Yorkshire Rose and is your proof that the piece has been independently checked.
